Should we stop using plastic in the kitchen?

Plastic pollution is making headlines at the moment.

Here at EatBy we’re obviously mad keen that the use of plastic packaging is reduced across all industries – not just food. And, yes, we’re delighted to see that the media has jumped onto the”reduce plastic packaging” bandwagon. Here in the UK the government is attempting to ban various disposable plastic items such as drinking straws. It’s become a farcical race to between the British and European governments to ban drinking straws in order to prove which administration can do something with the least amount of bureaucratic man hours. As crazy as it seems that MEPs and MPs are measuring their political aptitude with drinking straws it is, at least, a positive start.

HUNGRYHOUSE FIRST IN UK TO INTEGRATE WITH FOURSQUARE VIA BUTTON

hungryhouse.co.uk has today become the first online food ordering platform in the UK to be fully integrated with popular city guide app Foursquare, with the help of mobile commerce startup Button, in the first of many ventures between the two.

The online food ordering platform will now be featured in Foursquare, showing the option to link directly through to the platform so consumers can order their favourite dishes and find new local restaurants through recommendations and reviews left by those who recently visited them.

Foursquare, which has been around since 2009, learns people’s preferences and recommends similar restaurants that have been recommended by friends, brands, or other people in the Foursquare community., People can also search for places nearby, making finding their favourite takeaway easier.

hungryhouse is the first within their holding company Delivery Hero, the largest online food ordering network in the world, to integrate the service which will later roll out across other countries with the group.

The Office Coffee Company saves over 50,000 trees and 55,000 tonnes of CO2 in 12 months

Customers of Gloucestershire- based firm the Office Coffee Company has saved 51,098 trees over the past year, simply by switching to a sustainable coffee supplier. They have also prevented 55,355 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

The Office Coffee Company, a provider of ethical, beverages and coffee machines for businesses, has released its annual assessment of savings that have contributed to its mission to halt rainforest destruction by simply providing a great-tasting sustainable coffee option to office staff. Clients include Ben Ainsley Racing, Hootsuite and Euromoney Investor.

Each year, the Office Coffee Company calculates each customer’s contribution to the fight against deforestation – quantifying both the number of trees they have saved as well as tonnes of CO2 stored.

Since 2011, the Office Coffee Company’s customers have now saved more than 116,000 rainforest trees by indulging in over 860,000 cups of sustainably sourced coffee. That’s 483 acres of rainforest, which is equivalent to over 850 football pitches!
