We are the EatBy App team who are responsible for bringing you the EatBy App.
Our app is designed to help you help the environment and save a lot of money every year. You could reduce the amount of food you waste, reduce your carbon footprint and save around $1,000 each year.
It's a win, win, win!
The EatBy App is free on the App Store and Google Play.
Halloween is approaching but does the back of your fridge look like a scene from a horror movie?
For many of us October marks the transition from Summer to Autumn which naturally leads to a seasonal change in what we eat. But as we swap our salads for warming vegetables it’s inevitable that there are foods likely to be forgotten in the the back of the fridge.
So this is the ideal time of year to take an inventory of what food you have in the kitchen and use up whatever you can to make room for the new season. For example, using those opened summer BBQ condiments as marinades can really spice October up.
Food waste is a huge environmental problem so we should all be doing our bit to reduce the amount of food … Continue reading →
Great news – The EatBy App is now available on Apple devices and can be downloaded for free from the App Store.
We launched on Apple’s App Store and have already had a great response. We’d like to thank everybody who’s been involved at every level and to thank the good folk at Apple for their invaluable assistance.
It brings us a great deal of satisfaction to know that people see the potential of the EatBy App and greatly appreciate the support we’ve had.
We are already working on the next updates with new features and additional functions – including cloud and family sharing.
Follow these links to download the EatBy App onto your device.
Due to work to improve our server speed and security you might be experiencing some difficulties using the EatBy App. The work is necessary to prepare the server for the next update which includes a database of hundreds of thousands of pre-scanned products for your convenience. We had hoped this work would be completed early this morning – but we were perhaps a little optimistic!
We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause and will try to get things up and running again as quickly as possible. We appreciate you patience.
Good news too for everyone with Apple devices – we’re finalising the EatBy App for Apple devices today (5th of June) so it should be available for iPhones and iPads very soon.
We need your feedback!
The development of this app doesn’t stop here. The next phase of development is already underway and we are always interested in what you have to say! We’ll be grateful for your comments, feedback and ideas.
Help us out and spread our message…
Please spread the word about our App. Collectively we could all make a massive impact on the amount of food wasted globally. Yes, … Continue reading →
It’s been no secret what my wife, Barbara, and I have been up to over the last year and a half. For those who don’t know us, we’ve been developing an app that’ll help reduce food waste and save the average family around £700 ($1,000) every year.
Unlike most most app developers who seem to feature so often in the press we are not in our teens or early 20s. We’ve a young family and this is a bit of a career change for both of us.
We’re often asked why we made such a radical career change. But the answer isn’t as straight forward as you’d imagine. Becoming a family tech startup isn’t something we intended, it just happened.
The project began one lunchtime after we discovered that the meal I’d been looking forward to all morning was, in fact, out of date.
The French government has passed a bill that makes it illegal for supermarkets to dispose of edible food. The bill, which comes into force next year, makes it possible to pass prison sentences and charge hefty fines for food waste offenders.
