After one incident when they threw out an unopened pack of ham slices and a box of egg custard tarts Barbara became upset and a little angry. “We throw out too much because it gets forgotten at the back of the fridge.”
Steffan, mourning his egg custard tart, answered with that modern cliché, “I bet there’s an app for that.”
And so the idea was born. After scouring the available apps Steffan and Barbara decided that there wasn’t a brilliant solution to the problem of forgetting food in the fridge. When they learned how much food is unnecessarily wasted worldwide every year they became passionate about the global issue and made it their mission to change the way they shop for food and manage their kitchen. So they went about developing their own app.
Their goal was to create an app that they could use on a daily basis in order to stop wasting food and money. It had to be beautiful, simple and quick to use with as little effort as possible – even fun. They designed the app for their own use with the idea that other people could benefit from it too. They were determined the app should function properly without having to pay – but a voluntary in app purchase removes the adverts and unlocks an extremely good shopping list that integrates with the EatBy list perfectly.
After over a year of research, learning, hard work and testing, the EatBy App has become a reality.
